1. Prepare Sample Background Box

  • Open a new Page (see D#1).
  • Prepare for text (see D#11). You may want to have your page title a larger size that the labels for the Size Samples.
  • Click the Text Tool. Click where you want to type the title for the page. You can always move it if you don't like where it appears. To move it. Click on the Arrow Tool. Click on the text to Select it, hold and drag it to the new position.
  • On the Tool Menu, click on the Rectangle Tool. Click, hold and drag on the page to make a 2.5" x 2.5" square (watch the size numbers on the second set of boxes on the Page Menu, or simply type 3. into both boxes then click on the page).

    2. Fill Sample Background Box

  • Click on the Arrow Tool. Click on the Square to Select.
  • Follow the instructions in Create Backgrounds, #3, up to "Look at Size."
  • Change the size height and width numbers to .25. Click OK.

    3. Label Sample

  • Click the Text Tool. In the Options Menu click on the arrow next to the 100% box, click on 400%. Using the arrow scroll to where you can see the box on the page. Click under the box on the page. Type .25, 1/4 inch.

    4. Copy Box and Text

  • Click on the Arrow Tool, then Click on the text to Select, hold down the Shift Key and click on the background box. Now both are selected. In the Pulldown Menu, click on Arrange, then click on Group.
  • In the Options Menu, click on Copy, then Paste. It will paste the background box and text exactly on top of the originals. Click on the pasted objects, hold and drag to the right lining them up next with the box and text on the left.
  • In the Pulldown Menu, click on Edit, click on Select All. In the same menu click on Arrange, then click on Ungroup All.
  • Click on the second background box to Select it. Click on the Outline Tool, then on the Outline Color Dialog again. Change the size height and width numbers to .50. Click OK.
  • Click the Text Tool. In the Options Menu click on the arrow next to the 100% box, click on 400%. Using the arrow scroll to where you can see the box on the page. Click under the box on the page. Type .50, 1/2 inch.
  • Continue to Copy and Paste the Background Boxes and Labels and change them consecutively to (1., 1 inch); (1.5, 1 1/2 inch); (2., 2 inches); (2.5, 2 1/2 inches). You will probably be able to fit these six sizes on one page. If you want sample of larger sizes, add another page. I think the largest size I've used is 3" so unless you're really curious or want to move up in quarter inch increments, one page with six sample sizes should do.

    5. Print Background Size Index

  • Print your index page/pages (see D#13), and add to your Leaf Collection Log under the appropriate tab.
